20:1 イスラエルの人々は皆出て来て、ダンからベエル・シェバ、またギレアドの地まで、一団となって一人の人のようになり、ミツパで主の前に集まった。 20:2 イスラエルの全部族、すべての民の要職にある者たちも、神の民、剣を携えた四十万の歩兵たちの集いに参加した。 20:3 ベニヤミンの人々は、イスラエルの人々がミツパに上って来たことを伝え聞いた。イスラエルの人々が、「このような犯行がどうして行われたのか説明してもらいたい」と言ったので、 20:4 殺された女の夫であるレビ人はこう答えた。「ベニヤミンのギブアに来て、わたしは側女と共に宿をとっておりました。 20:5 ギブアの首長たちがわたしに向かって来て、夜、わたしの泊まった家を取り囲み、わたしを殺そうとし、側女を辱めて死に至らせたのです。 20:6 わたしは側女をつかみ、その体を切り離して、イスラエルの嗣業の全耕地に送りました。彼らがイスラエルの中で極悪非道なことをしたからです。 20:7 あなたたちイスラエルのすべての人々よ。ここで話し合って協議していただきたい。」 20:8 すべての民は一人の人のように立ち上がり、こう言った。「我々はだれも自分の天幕に帰らず、だれも家に戻らない。 20:9 我々が今、ギブアに対してなすべきことはこうだ。ギブアに対してまずくじを引いて攻め上ろう。 20:10 イスラエル全部族から百人につき十人、従って千人なら百人、一万人いれば千人を選んで糧食を調達させ、部隊をベニヤミンのギブアに行かせ、ベニヤミンがイスラエルの中で行ったすべての非道を制裁しよう。」 20:11 こうしてイスラエルの者が皆、一人の人のように連帯を固めてその町に向かって集まった。 20:12 イスラエルの諸部族は、全ベニヤミン族に人を送って、こう告げた。「あなたたちの中で行われたあの犯行はなんということか。 20:13 今、あのならず者の犯人がギブアにいれば、引き渡せ。犯人を殺してイスラエルの中から悪を取り除こう。」だが、ベニヤミンの人々は、その兄弟たち、イスラエルの人々の声を聞こうとはしなかった。 20:14 かえってベニヤミンの人々は町々からギブアに集まり、イスラエルの人々と戦おうとして出て来た。 20:15 その日、町々からはせ参じたベニヤミンの人々は、数を調べると、剣を携えた兵士二万六千人、そのほかにギブアの住民からえり抜きの兵士七百人であった。 20:16 七百人のえり抜きの兵士からなるこの部隊の皆が左利きで、髪の毛一筋をねらって石を投げても、その的をはずすことがなかった。 20:17 一方、イスラエルの人も、ベニヤミンを除いて数を調べると、剣を携えた兵士四十万で、彼らは皆、軍人であった。 20:18 彼らは立ち上がってベテルに上った。イスラエルの人々は神に問うて言った。「我々のうち誰が最初に上って行ってベニヤミンと戦うべきでしょうか。」主は、「ユダが最初だ」と言われた。 20:19 翌朝、イスラエルの人々は行動を起こし、ギブアに対して陣を敷いた。 20:20 イスラエル人はベニヤミンとの戦いに出陣し、ギブアに対して戦闘態勢に入ったが、 20:21 ベニヤミンの人々はギブアから出撃して、その日、二万二千人のイスラエル兵を地に打ち倒した。 20:22 しかし、イスラエル人の部隊は奮起し、最初の日に戦闘態勢に入った場所で、態勢を立て直した。 20:23 イスラエルの人々は主の御前に上って、夕方まで泣き続け、主に問うて言った。「兄弟ベニヤミンと、再び戦いを交えねばなりませんか。」しかし、主は言われた。「彼らに向かって攻め上れ。」 20:24 二日目もイスラエルの人々はベニヤミンの人々に向かって進撃した。 20:25 しかし、ベニヤミンは、二日目にもギブアから出撃してそれを迎え撃ち、またもイスラエルの人々一万八千人を地に打ち倒した。彼らは皆、剣で武装した者であった。 20:26 イスラエルの人々は皆、そのすべての軍団と共にベテルに上って行き、主の御前に座り込んで泣いた。その日、彼らは夕方まで断食し、焼き尽くす献げ物と和解の献げ物を主の御前にささげた。 20:27 イスラエルの人々は主に問うた。――当時、神の契約の箱はそこにあり、 20:28 また当時、アロンの孫でエルアザルの子であるピネハスが御前に仕えていた――イスラエルの人々は言った。「兄弟ベニヤミンとの戦いに、再び繰り返して出陣すべきでしょうか。それとも控えるべきでしょうか。」主は言われた。「攻め上れ。明日、わたしは彼らをあなたの手に渡す。」 20:29 イスラエルはギブアの周囲に伏兵を配置した。 20:30 三日目もイスラエルの人々はベニヤミンの人々に向かって攻め上り、前と同じようにギブアに対して戦闘態勢に入った。 20:31 ベニヤミンも、その軍団を迎え撃とうとして出て来た。彼らは町から遠くへおびき出され、一方はベテルに、他方はギブアに通じる大路を進んだ。野でイスラエルの部隊に死傷者が出始め、約三十人が倒れた。 20:32 ベニヤミンの人々は、「初戦と同様、敵を打ち負かした」と思ったが、イスラエルの人々は、「撤退して敵を町から大路におびき出そう」と謀っていた。 20:33 イスラエルの人々は皆、自分の持ち場から立ち上がり、バアル・タマルで戦闘態勢に入った。イスラエルの伏兵も自分の持ち場であるゲバの平原から躍り出た。 20:34 全イスラエルのえり抜きの兵士一万人がギブアに向かって進撃し、激戦となった。ベニヤミンの人々は自分たちに不幸な結末が訪れるとは思ってもみなかった。 20:35 主はイスラエルの目の前でベニヤミンを撃たれたので、イスラエルの人々が、その日打ち滅ぼしたベニヤミンの兵は二万五千百人に上った。彼らは皆、剣を携える者であった。 20:36 ベニヤミンの人々は敗北を認めざるをえなかった。イスラエル人はギブアに対して配置した伏兵を信頼していたので、ベニヤミンに戦場を明け渡した。 20:37 その伏兵がギブアを急襲した。伏兵は突入し、町をくまなく剣をもって撃った。 20:38 イスラエル人と伏兵との間に打ち合わせがあって、町からのろしの煙が高々と揚がると、 20:39 イスラエル人は戦線に復帰することになっていた。ベニヤミンは、イスラエル人に死傷者が出始め、約三十人の兵を打ち倒したとき、「初戦と同様に、敵を打ち負かした」と思ったが、 20:40 雲の柱のようなのろしが町から揚がり始め、ベニヤミンが振り返ると、町全体が火に包まれ天に燃え上がっていた。 20:41 そこへイスラエル人が引き返して来たので、ベニヤミン人は、自分たちに、不幸な結末が訪れるのを知って、うろたえた。 20:42 彼らはイスラエル人を見て荒れ野の方に向かったが、戦いを逃れることができなかった。町々から出て来た人々も加わって彼らを屠り去った。 20:43 彼らはベニヤミンを包囲し、追いつめ、手を緩めずギブアの向こう側、東側まで踏みにじった。 20:44 ベニヤミンの中で一万八千人が倒れたが、彼らは皆、軍人であった。 20:45 他の者は荒れ野のリモンの岩場に向かって逃げたが、イスラエル人は大路でその五千人を討ち、彼らが、壊滅するまで追い迫り、二千人を打ち殺した。 20:46 この日、ベニヤミンの全戦死者は剣を携える者二万五千人で、彼らは皆、軍人であった。 20:47 六百人が荒れ野のリモンの岩場に逃げて、四か月、そこリモンの岩場にとどまった。 20:48 一方、イスラエル人はベニヤミンの人々のところに戻って来て、町の男たちから家畜まで、見つけしだい、残らず彼らを剣で撃ち、どの町にも見つけしだい火を放った。
20:1 So all the children of Israel came out, from Dan to Beersheba, as well as from the land of Gilead, and the congregation gathered together as one man before the Lord at Mizpah. 20:2 And the leaders of all the people, all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand foot soldiers who drew the sword. 20:3 (Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the children of Israel said, "Tell us, how did this wicked deed happen?" 20:4 So the Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered and said, "My concubine and I went into Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin, to spend the night. 20:5 "And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house at night because of me. They intended to kill me, but instead they ravished my concubine so that she died. 20:6 "So I took hold of my concubine, cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the territory of the inheritance of Israel, because they committed lewdness and outrage in Israel. 20:7 "Look! All of you are children of Israel; give your advice and counsel here and now!" 20:8 So all the people arose as one man, saying, "None of us will go to his tent, nor will any turn back to his house; 20:9 "but now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: We will go up against it by lot. 20:10 "We will take ten men out of every hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to make provisions for the people, that when they come to Gibeah in Benjamin, they may repay all the vileness that they have done in Israel." 20:11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, united together as one man. 20:12 Then the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, "What is this wickedness that has occurred among you? 20:13 "Now therefore, deliver up the men, the perverted men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and remove the evil from Israel!" But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel. 20:14 Instead, the children of Benjamin gathered together from their cities to Gibeah, to go to battle against the children of Israel. 20:15 And from their cities at that time the children of Benjamin numbered twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who numbered seven hundred select men. 20:16 Among all this people were seven hundred select men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair's breadth and not miss. 20:17 Now besides Benjamin, the men of Israel numbered four hundred thousand men who drew the sword; all of these were men of war. 20:18 Then the children of Israel arose and went up to the house of God to inquire of God. They said, "Which of us shall go up first to battle against the children of Benjamin?" The Lord said, "Judah first!" 20:19 So the children of Israel rose in the morning and encamped against Gibeah. 20:20 And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin, and the men of Israel put themselves in battle array to fight against them at Gibeah. 20:21 Then the children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day cut down to the ground twenty-two thousand men of the Israelites. 20:22 And the people, that is, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves and again formed the battle line at the place where they had put themselves in array on the first day. 20:23 Then the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, "Shall I again draw near for battle against the children of my brother Benjamin?" And the Lord said, "Go up against him." 20:24 So the children of Israel approached the children of Benjamin on the second day. 20:25 And Benjamin went out against them from Gibeah on the second day, and cut down to the ground eighteen thousand more of the children of Israel; all these drew the sword. 20:26 Then all the children of Israel, that is, all the people, went up and came to the house of God and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 20:27 So the children of Israel inquired of the Lord (the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, 20:28 and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, "Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?" And the Lord said, "Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand." 20:29 Then Israel set men in ambush all around Gibeah. 20:30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in battle array against Gibeah as at the other times. 20:31 So the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city. They began to strike down and kill some of the people, as at the other times, in the highways (one of which goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah) and in the field, about thirty men of Israel. 20:32 And the children of Benjamin said, "They are defeated before us, as at first." But the children of Israel said, "Let us flee and draw them away from the city to the highways." 20:33 So all the men of Israel rose from their place and put themselves in battle array at Baal Tamar. Then Israel's men in ambush burst forth from their position in the plain of Geba. 20:34 And ten thousand select men from all Israel came against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce. But the Benjamites did not know that disaster was upon them. 20:35 The Lord defeated Benjamin before Israel. And the children of Israel destroyed that day twenty-five thousand one hundred Benjamites; all these drew the sword. 20:36 So the children of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. The men of Israel had given ground to the Benjamites, because they relied on the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah. 20:37 And the men in ambush quickly rushed upon Gibeah; the men in ambush spread out and struck the whole city with the edge of the sword. 20:38 Now the appointed signal between the men of Israel and the men in ambush was that they would make a great cloud of smoke rise up from the city, 20:39 whereupon the men of Israel would turn in battle. Now Benjamin had begun to strike and kill about thirty of the men of Israel. For they said, "Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle." 20:40 But when the cloud began to rise from the city in a column of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and there was the whole city going up in smoke to heaven. 20:41 And when the men of Israel turned back, the men of Benjamin panicked, for they saw that disaster had come upon them. 20:42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them, and whoever came out of the cities they destroyed in their midst. 20:43 They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and easily trampled them down as far as the front of Gibeah toward the east. 20:44 And eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor. 20:45 Then they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and they cut down five thousand of them on the highways. Then they pursued them relentlessly up to Gidom, and killed two thousand of them. 20:46 So all who fell of Benjamin that day were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor. 20:47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and they stayed at the rock of Rimmon for four months. 20:48 And the men of Israel turned back against the children of Benjamin, and struck them down with the edge of the sword-from every city, men and beasts, all who were found. They also set fire to all the cities they came to.
13:18 そこで、イエスは言われた。「神の国は何に似ているか。何にたとえようか。 13:19 それは、からし種に似ている。人がこれを取って庭に蒔くと、成長して木になり、その枝には空の鳥が巣を作る。」 13:20 また言われた。「神の国を何にたとえようか。 13:21 パン種に似ている。女がこれを取って三サトンの粉に混ぜると、やがて全体が膨れる。」
13:22 イエスは町や村を巡って教えながら、エルサレムへ向かって進んでおられた。 13:23 すると、「主よ、救われる者は少ないのでしょうか」と言う人がいた。イエスは一同に言われた。 13:24 「狭い戸口から入るように努めなさい。言っておくが、入ろうとしても入れない人が多いのだ。 13:25 家の主人が立ち上がって、戸を閉めてしまってからでは、あなたがたが外に立って戸をたたき、『御主人様、開けてください』と言っても、『お前たちがどこの者か知らない』という答えが返ってくるだけである。 13:26 そのとき、あなたがたは、『御一緒に食べたり飲んだりしましたし、また、わたしたちの広場でお教えを受けたのです』と言いだすだろう。 13:27 しかし主人は、『お前たちがどこの者か知らない。不義を行う者ども、皆わたしから立ち去れ』と言うだろう。 13:28 あなたがたは、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブやすべての預言者たちが神の国に入っているのに、自分は外に投げ出されることになり、そこで泣きわめいて歯ぎしりする。 13:29 そして人々は、東から西から、また南から北から来て、神の国で宴会の席に着く。 13:30 そこでは、後の人で先になる者があり、先の人で後になる者もある。」
13:31 ちょうどそのとき、ファリサイ派の人々が何人か近寄って来て、イエスに言った。「ここを立ち去ってください。ヘロデがあなたを殺そうとしています。」 13:32 イエスは言われた。「行って、あの狐に、『今日も明日も、悪霊を追い出し、病気をいやし、三日目にすべてを終える』とわたしが言ったと伝えなさい。 13:33 だが、わたしは今日も明日も、その次の日も自分の道を進まねばならない。預言者がエルサレム以外の所で死ぬことは、ありえないからだ。 13:34 エルサレム、エルサレム、預言者たちを殺し、自分に遣わされた人々を石で打ち殺す者よ、めん鳥が雛を羽の下に集めるように、わたしはお前の子らを何度集めようとしたことか。だが、お前たちは応じようとしなかった。 13:35 見よ、お前たちの家は見捨てられる。言っておくが、お前たちは、『主の名によって来られる方に、祝福があるように』と言う時が来るまで、決してわたしを見ることがない。」
13:18 Then He said, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 13:19 "It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches." 13:20 And again He said, "To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 13:21 "It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened." 13:22 And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 13:23 Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them, 13:24 "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 13:25 "When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from,' 13:26 "then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' 13:27 "But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' 13:28 "There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. 13:29 "They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. 13:30 "And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last." 13:31 On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, "Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You." 13:32 And He said to them, "Go, tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.' 13:33 "Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem. 13:34 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! 13:35 "See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' "
