7:1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley. 7:2 And the Lord said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me.' 7:3 "Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.' " And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained. 7:4 But the Lord said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' the same shall not go." 7:5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, "Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink." 7:6 And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. 7:7 Then the Lord said to Gideon, "By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place." 7:8 So the people took provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And he sent away all the rest of Israel, every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was below him in the valley. 7:9 It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, "Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand. 7:10 "But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant, 7:11 "and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp." Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outpost of the armed men who were in the camp. 7:12 Now the Midianites and Amalekites, all the people of the East, were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the seashore in multitude. 7:13 And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, "I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed." 7:14 Then his companion answered and said, "This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp." 7:15 And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, "Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand." 7:16 Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers. 7:17 And he said to them, "Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do: 7:18 "When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, 'The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!' " 7:19 So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands. 7:20 Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers-they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing-and they cried, "The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!" 7:21 And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled. 7:22 When the three hundred blew the trumpets, the Lord set every man's sword against his companion throughout the whole camp; and the army fled to Beth Acacia, toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath. 7:23 And the men of Israel gathered together from Naphtali, Asher, and all Manasseh, and pursued the Midianites. 7:24 Then Gideon sent messengers throughout all the mountains of Ephraim, saying, "Come down against the Midianites, and seize from them the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan." Then all the men of Ephraim gathered together and seized the watering places as far as Beth Barah and the Jordan. 7:25 And they captured two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued Midian and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.
8:26 一行は、ガリラヤの向こう岸にあるゲラサ人の地方に着いた。 8:27 イエスが陸に上がられると、この町の者で、悪霊に取りつかれている男がやって来た。この男は長い間、衣服を身に着けず、家に住まないで墓場を住まいとしていた。 8:28 イエスを見ると、わめきながらひれ伏し、大声で言った。「いと高き神の子イエス、かまわないでくれ。頼むから苦しめないでほしい。」 8:29 イエスが、汚れた霊に男から出るように命じられたからである。この人は何回も汚れた霊に取りつかれたので、鎖でつながれ、足枷をはめられて監視されていたが、それを引きちぎっては、悪霊によって荒れ野へと駆り立てられていた。 8:30 イエスが、「名は何というか」とお尋ねになると、「レギオン」と言った。たくさんの悪霊がこの男に入っていたからである。 8:31 そして悪霊どもは、底なしの淵へ行けという命令を自分たちに出さないようにと、イエスに願った。 8:32 ところで、その辺りの山で、たくさんの豚の群れがえさをあさっていた。悪霊どもが豚の中に入る許しを願うと、イエスはお許しになった。 8:33 悪霊どもはその人から出て、豚の中に入った。すると、豚の群れは崖を下って湖になだれ込み、おぼれ死んだ。 8:34 この出来事を見た豚飼いたちは逃げ出し、町や村にこのことを知らせた。 8:35 そこで、人々はその出来事を見ようとしてやって来た。彼らはイエスのところに来ると、悪霊どもを追い出してもらった人が、服を着、正気になってイエスの足もとに座っているのを見て、恐ろしくなった。 8:36 成り行きを見ていた人たちは、悪霊に取りつかれていた人の救われた次第を人々に知らせた。 8:37 そこで、ゲラサ地方の人々は皆、自分たちのところから出て行ってもらいたいと、イエスに願った。彼らはすっかり恐れに取りつかれていたのである。そこで、イエスは舟に乗って帰ろうとされた。 8:38 悪霊どもを追い出してもらった人が、お供したいとしきりに願ったが、イエスはこう言ってお帰しになった。 8:39 「自分の家に帰りなさい。そして、神があなたになさったことをことごとく話して聞かせなさい。」その人は立ち去り、イエスが自分にしてくださったことをことごとく町中に言い広めた。
8:40 イエスが帰って来られると、群衆は喜んで迎えた。人々は皆、イエスを待っていたからである。 8:41 そこへ、ヤイロという人が来た。この人は会堂長であった。彼はイエスの足もとにひれ伏して、自分の家に来てくださるようにと願った。 8:42 十二歳ぐらいの一人娘がいたが、死にかけていたのである。イエスがそこに行かれる途中、群衆が周りに押し寄せて来た。 8:43 ときに、十二年このかた出血が止まらず、医者に全財産を使い果たしたが、だれからも治してもらえない女がいた。 8:44 この女が近寄って来て、後ろからイエスの服の房に触れると、直ちに出血が止まった。 8:45 イエスは、「わたしに触れたのはだれか」と言われた。人々は皆、自分ではないと答えたので、ペトロが、「先生、群衆があなたを取り巻いて、押し合っているのです」と言った。 8:46 しかし、イエスは、「だれかがわたしに触れた。わたしから力が出て行ったのを感じたのだ」と言われた。 8:47 女は隠しきれないと知って、震えながら進み出てひれ伏し、触れた理由とたちまちいやされた次第とを皆の前で話した。 8:48 イエスは言われた。「娘よ、あなたの信仰があなたを救った。安心して行きなさい。」 8:49 イエスがまだ話しておられるときに、会堂長の家から人が来て言った。「お嬢さんは亡くなりました。この上、先生を煩わすことはありません。」 8:50 イエスは、これを聞いて会堂長に言われた。「恐れることはない。ただ信じなさい。そうすれば、娘は救われる。」 8:51 イエスはその家に着くと、ペトロ、ヨハネ、ヤコブ、それに娘の父母のほかには、だれも一緒に入ることをお許しにならなかった。 8:52 人々は皆、娘のために泣き悲しんでいた。そこで、イエスは言われた。「泣くな。死んだのではない。眠っているのだ。」 8:53 人々は、娘が死んだことを知っていたので、イエスをあざ笑った。 8:54 イエスは娘の手を取り、「娘よ、起きなさい」と呼びかけられた。 8:55 すると娘は、その霊が戻って、すぐに起き上がった。イエスは、娘に食べ物を与えるように指図をされた。 8:56 娘の両親は非常に驚いた。イエスは、この出来事をだれにも話さないようにとお命じになった。
8:26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 8:27 And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!" 8:29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness. 8:30 Jesus asked him, saying, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered him. 8:31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss. 8:32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 8:33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. 8:34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country. 8:35 Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 8:36 They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon-possessed was healed. 8:37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned. 8:38 Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 8:39 "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. 8:40 So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. 8:41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house, 8:42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 8:43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 8:44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. 8:45 And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?' " 8:46 But Jesus said, "Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me." 8:47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. 8:48 And He said to her, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace." 8:49 While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher." 8:50 But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, "Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well." 8:51 When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. 8:52 Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, "Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping." 8:53 And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. 8:54 But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Little girl, arise." 8:55 Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. 8:56 And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.
