24:1 主がわたしに示された。見よ、主の神殿の前に、いちじくを盛った二つの籠が置いてあった。それは、バビロンの王ネブカドレツァルが、ユダの王、ヨヤキムの子エコンヤ、ユダの高官たち、それに工匠や鍛冶をエルサレムから捕囚としてバビロンに連れて行った後のことであった。 24:2 一つの籠には、初なりのいちじくのような、非常に良いいちじくがあり、もう一つの籠には、非常に悪くて食べられないいちじくが入っていた。 24:3 主はわたしに言われた。「エレミヤよ、何が見えるか。」わたしは言った。「いちじくです。良い方のいちじくは非常に良いのですが、悪い方は非常に悪くて食べられません。」 24:4 そのとき、主の言葉がわたしに臨んだ。 24:5 「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる。このところからカルデア人の国へ送ったユダの捕囚の民を、わたしはこの良いいちじくのように見なして、恵みを与えよう。 24:6 彼らに目を留めて恵みを与え、この地に連れ戻す。彼らを建てて、倒さず、植えて、抜くことはない。 24:7 そしてわたしは、わたしが主であることを知る心を彼らに与える。彼らはわたしの民となり、わたしは彼らの神となる。彼らは真心をもってわたしのもとへ帰って来る。 24:8 主はまたこう言われる。ユダの王ゼデキヤとその高官たち、エルサレムの残りの者でこの国にとどまっている者、エジプトの国に住み着いた者を、非常に悪くて食べられないいちじくのようにする。 24:9 わたしは彼らを、世界のあらゆる国々の恐怖と嫌悪の的とする。彼らはわたしが追いやるあらゆるところで、辱めと物笑いの種、嘲りと呪いの的となる。 24:10 わたしは彼らに剣、飢饉、疫病を送って、わたしが彼らと父祖たちに与えた土地から滅ぼし尽くす。」
24:1 The Lord showed me, and there were two baskets of figs set before the temple of the Lord, after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. 24:2 One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten, they were so bad. 24:3 Then the Lord said to me, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" And I said, "Figs, the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad." 24:4 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 24:5 "Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: 'Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans. 24:6 'For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up. 24:7 'Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart. 24:8 'And as the bad figs which cannot be eaten, they are so bad'-surely thus says the Lord-'so will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, his princes, the residue of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt. 24:9 'I will deliver them to trouble into all the kingdoms of the earth, for their harm, to be a reproach and a byword, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them. 24:10 'And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, till they are consumed from the land that I gave to them and their fathers.' "

1:3 マケドニア州に出発するときに頼んでおいたように、あなたはエフェソにとどまって、ある人々に命じなさい。異なる教えを説いたり、 1:4 作り話や切りのない系図に心を奪われたりしないようにと。このような作り話や系図は、信仰による神の救いの計画の実現よりも、むしろ無意味な詮索を引き起こします。 1:5 わたしのこの命令は、清い心と正しい良心と純真な信仰とから生じる愛を目指すものです。 1:6 ある人々はこれらのものからそれて、無益な議論の中に迷い込みました。 1:7 彼らは、自分の言っていることも主張している事柄についても理解していないのに、律法の教師でありたいと思っています。 1:8 しかし、わたしたちは、律法は正しく用いるならば良いものであることを知っています。 1:9 すなわち、次のことを知って用いれば良いものです。律法は、正しい者のために与えられているのではなく、不法な者や不従順な者、不信心な者や罪を犯す者、神を畏れぬ者や俗悪な者、父を殺す者や母を殺す者、人を殺す者、 1:10 みだらな行いをする者、男色をする者、誘拐する者、偽りを言う者、偽証する者のために与えられ、そのほか、健全な教えに反することがあれば、そのために与えられているのです。 1:11 今述べたことは、祝福に満ちた神の栄光の福音に一致しており、わたしはその福音をゆだねられています。
1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, 1:2 To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. 1:3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia-remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 1:4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. 1:5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, 1:6 from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, 1:7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. 1:8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 1:9 knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1:10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, 1:11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.
