9:1 わたしは心を尽くして次のようなことを明らかにした。すなわち／善人、賢人、そして彼らの働きは／神の手の中にある。愛も、憎しみも、人間は知らない。人間の前にあるすべてのことは 9:2 何事も同じで／同じひとつのことが善人にも悪人にも良い人にも／清い人にも不浄な人にも／いけにえをささげる人にもささげない人にも臨む。良い人に起こることが罪を犯す人にも起こり／誓いを立てる人に起こることが／誓いを恐れる人にも起こる。 9:3 太陽の下に起こるすべてのことの中で最も悪いのは、だれにでも同じひとつのことが臨むこと、その上、生きている間、人の心は悪に満ち、思いは狂っていて、その後は死ぬだけだということ。 9:4 命あるもののうちに数えられてさえいれば／まだ安心だ。犬でも、生きていれば、死んだ獅子よりましだ。 9:5 生きているものは、少なくとも知っている／自分はやがて死ぬ、ということを。しかし、死者はもう何ひとつ知らない。彼らはもう報いを受けることもなく／彼らの名は忘れられる。 9:6 その愛も憎しみも、情熱も、既に消えうせ／太陽の下に起こることのどれひとつにも／もう何のかかわりもない。 9:7 さあ、喜んであなたのパンを食べ／気持よくあなたの酒を飲むがよい。あなたの業を神は受け入れていてくださる。 9:8 どのようなときも純白の衣を着て／頭には香油を絶やすな。 9:9 太陽の下、与えられた空しい人生の日々／愛する妻と共に楽しく生きるがよい。それが、太陽の下で労苦するあなたへの／人生と労苦の報いなのだ。 9:10 何によらず手をつけたことは熱心にするがよい。いつかは行かなければならないあの陰府には／仕事も企ても、知恵も知識も、もうないのだ。 9:11 太陽の下、再びわたしは見た。足の速い者が競争に、強い者が戦いに／必ずしも勝つとは言えない。知恵があるといってパンにありつくのでも／聡明だからといって富を得るのでも／知識があるといって好意をもたれるのでもない。時と機会はだれにも臨むが 9:12 人間がその時を知らないだけだ。魚が運悪く網にかかったり／鳥が罠にかかったりするように／人間も突然不運に見舞われ、罠にかかる。 9:13 わたしはまた太陽の下に、知恵について次のような実例を見て、強い印象を受けた。 9:14 ある小さな町に僅かの住民がいた。そこへ強大な王が攻めて来て包囲し、大きな攻城堡塁を築いた。 9:15 その町に一人の貧しい賢人がいて、知恵によって町を救った。しかし、貧しいこの人のことは、だれの口にものぼらなかった。 9:16 それで、わたしは言った。知恵は力にまさるというが／この貧しい人の知恵は侮られ／その言葉は聞かれない。 9:17 支配者が愚か者の中で叫ぶよりは／賢者の静かに説く言葉が聞かれるものだ。 9:18 知恵は武器にまさる。一度の過ちは多くの善をそこなう。
9:1 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them. 9:2 All things come alike to all:One event happens to the righteous and the wicked;To the good, the clean, and the unclean;To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice.As is the good, so is the sinner;He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath. 9:3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead. 9:4 But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion. 9:5 For the living know that they will die;But the dead know nothing,And they have no more reward,For the memory of them is forgotten. 9:6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished;Nevermore will they have a shareIn anything done under the sun. 9:7 Go, eat your bread with joy,And drink your wine with a merry heart;For God has already accepted your works. 9:8 Let your garments always be white,And let your head lack no oil. 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun. 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. 9:11 I returned and saw under the sun that-The race is not to the swift,Nor the battle to the strong,Nor bread to the wise,Nor riches to men of understanding,Nor favor to men of skill;But time and chance happen to them all. 9:12 For man also does not know his time:Like fish taken in a cruel net,Like birds caught in a snare,So the sons of men are snared in an evil time,When it falls suddenly upon them. 9:13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: 9:14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. 9:15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. 9:16 Then I said:"Wisdom is better than strength.Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised,And his words are not heard. 9:17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heardRather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 9:18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war;But one sinner destroys much good."
9:15 しかし、わたしはこの権利を何一つ利用したことはありません。こう書いたのは、自分もその権利を利用したいからではない。それくらいなら、死んだ方がましです……。だれも、わたしのこの誇りを無意味なものにしてはならない。 9:16 もっとも、わたしが福音を告げ知らせても、それはわたしの誇りにはなりません。そうせずにはいられないことだからです。福音を告げ知らせないなら、わたしは不幸なのです。 9:17 自分からそうしているなら、報酬を得るでしょう。しかし、強いられてするなら、それは、ゆだねられている務めなのです。 9:18 では、わたしの報酬とは何でしょうか。それは、福音を告げ知らせるときにそれを無報酬で伝え、福音を伝えるわたしが当然持っている権利を用いないということです。 9:19 わたしは、だれに対しても自由な者ですが、すべての人の奴隷になりました。できるだけ多くの人を得るためです。 9:20 ユダヤ人に対しては、ユダヤ人のようになりました。ユダヤ人を得るためです。律法に支配されている人に対しては、わたし自身はそうではないのですが、律法に支配されている人のようになりました。律法に支配されている人を得るためです。 9:21 また、わたしは神の律法を持っていないわけではなく、キリストの律法に従っているのですが、律法を持たない人に対しては、律法を持たない人のようになりました。律法を持たない人を得るためです。 9:22 弱い人に対しては、弱い人のようになりました。弱い人を得るためです。すべての人に対してすべてのものになりました。何とかして何人かでも救うためです。 9:23 福音のためなら、わたしはどんなことでもします。それは、わたしが福音に共にあずかる者となるためです。 9:24 あなたがたは知らないのですか。競技場で走る者は皆走るけれども、賞を受けるのは一人だけです。あなたがたも賞を得るように走りなさい。 9:25 競技をする人は皆、すべてに節制します。彼らは朽ちる冠を得るためにそうするのですが、わたしたちは、朽ちない冠を得るために節制するのです。 9:26 だから、わたしとしては、やみくもに走ったりしないし、空を打つような拳闘もしません。 9:27 むしろ、自分の体を打ちたたいて服従させます。それは、他の人々に宣教しておきながら、自分の方が失格者になってしまわないためです。
9:15 But I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void. 9:16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! 9:17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 9:18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel. 9:19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 9:20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 9:21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 9:22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 9:23 Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 9:26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 9:27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
