7:1 名声は香油にまさる。死ぬ日は生まれる日にまさる。 7:2 弔いの家に行くのは／酒宴の家に行くのにまさる。そこには人皆の終りがある。命あるものよ、心せよ。 7:3 悩みは笑いにまさる。顔が曇るにつれて心は安らぐ。 7:4 賢者の心は弔いの家に／愚者の心は快楽の家に。 7:5 賢者の叱責を聞くのは／愚者の賛美を聞くのにまさる。 7:6 愚者の笑いは鍋の下にはぜる柴の音。これまた空しい。 7:7 賢者さえも、虐げられれば狂い／賄賂をもらえば理性を失う。 7:8 事の終りは始めにまさる。気位が高いよりも気が長いのがよい。 7:9 気短に怒るな。怒りは愚者の胸に宿るもの。 7:10 昔の方がよかったのはなぜだろうかと言うな。それは賢い問いではない。 7:11 知恵は遺産に劣らず良いもの。日の光を見る者の役に立つ。 7:12 知恵の陰に宿れば銀の陰に宿る、というが／知っておくがよい／知恵はその持ち主に命を与える、と。 7:13 神の御業を見よ。神が曲げたものを、誰が直しえようか。 7:14 順境には楽しめ、逆境にはこう考えよ／人が未来について無知であるようにと／神はこの両者を併せ造られた、と。 7:15 この空しい人生の日々に／わたしはすべてを見極めた。善人がその善のゆえに滅びることもあり／悪人がその悪のゆえに長らえることもある。 7:16 善人すぎるな、賢すぎるな／どうして滅びてよかろう。 7:17 悪事をすごすな、愚かすぎるな／どうして時も来ないのに死んでよかろう。 7:18 一つのことをつかむのはよいが／ほかのことからも手を放してはいけない。神を畏れ敬えば／どちらをも成し遂げることができる。 7:19 知恵は賢者を力づけて／町にいる十人の権力者よりも強くする。 7:20 善のみ行って罪を犯さないような人間は／この地上にはいない。 7:21 人の言うことをいちいち気にするな。そうすれば、僕があなたを呪っても／聞き流していられる。 7:22 あなた自身も何度となく他人を呪ったことを／あなたの心はよく知っているはずだ。 7:23 わたしはこういうことをすべて／知恵を尽くして試してみた。賢者でありたいと思ったが／それはわたしから遠いことであった。 7:24 存在したことは、はるかに遠く／その深い深いところを誰が見いだせようか。 7:25 わたしは熱心に知識を求め／知恵と結論を追求し／悪は愚行、愚行は狂気であることを／悟ろうとした。 7:26 わたしの見いだしたところでは／死よりも、罠よりも、苦い女がある。その心は網、その手は枷。神に善人と認められた人は彼女を免れるが／一歩誤れば、そのとりことなる。 7:27 見よ、これがわたしの見いだしたところ／――コヘレトの言葉――／ひとつひとつ調べて見いだした結論。 7:28 わたしの魂はなお尋ね求めて見いださなかった。千人に一人という男はいたが／千人に一人として、良い女は見いださなかった。 7:29 ただし見よ、見いだしたことがある。神は人間をまっすぐに造られたが／人間は複雑な考え方をしたがる、ということ。
7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment,And the day of death than the day of one's birth; 7:2 Better to go to the house of mourningThan to go to the house of feasting,For that is the end of all men;And the living will take it to heart. 7:3 Sorrow is better than laughter,For by a sad countenance the heart is made better. 7:4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. 7:5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wiseThan for a man to hear the song of fools. 7:6 For like the crackling of thorns under a pot,So is the laughter of the fool.This also is vanity. 7:7 Surely oppression destroys a wise man's reason,And a bribe debases the heart. 7:8 The end of a thing is better than its beginning;The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. 7:9 Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry,For anger rests in the bosom of fools. 7:10 Do not say,"Why were the former days better than these?"For you do not inquire wisely concerning this. 7:11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance,And profitable to those who see the sun. 7:12 For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense,But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it. 7:13 Consider the work of God;For who can make straight what He has made crooked? 7:14 In the day of prosperity be joyful,But in the day of adversity consider:Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other,So that man can find out nothing that will come after him. 7:15 I have seen everything in my days of vanity:There is a just man who perishes in his righteousness,And there is a wicked man who prolongs life in his wickedness. 7:16 Do not be overly righteous,Nor be overly wise:Why should you destroy yourself? 7:17 Do not be overly wicked,Nor be foolish:Why should you die before your time? 7:18 It is good that you grasp this,And also not remove your hand from the other;For he who fears God will escape them all. 7:19 Wisdom strengthens the wiseMore than ten rulers of the city. 7:20 For there is not a just man on earth who does goodAnd does not sin. 7:21 Also do not take to heart everything people say,Lest you hear your servant cursing you. 7:22 For many times, also, your own heart has knownThat even you have cursed others. 7:23 All this I have proved by wisdom.I said, "I will be wise";But it was far from me. 7:24 As for that which is far off and exceedingly deep,Who can find it out? 7:25 I applied my heart to know,To search and seek out wisdom and the reason of things,To know the wickedness of folly,Even of foolishness and madness. 7:26 And I find more bitter than deathThe woman whose heart is snares and nets,Whose hands are fetters.He who pleases God shall escape from her,But the sinner shall be trapped by her. 7:27 "Here is what I have found," says the Preacher,"Adding one thing to the other to find out the reason, 7:28 Which my soul still seeks but I cannot find:One man among a thousand I have found,But a woman among all these I have not found. 7:29 Truly, this only I have found:That God made man upright,But they have sought out many schemes."
8:1 偶像に供えられた肉について言えば、「我々は皆、知識を持っている」ということは確かです。ただ、知識は人を高ぶらせるが、愛は造り上げる。 8:2 自分は何か知っていると思う人がいたら、その人は、知らねばならぬことをまだ知らないのです。 8:3 しかし、神を愛する人がいれば、その人は神に知られているのです。 8:4 そこで、偶像に供えられた肉を食べることについてですが、世の中に偶像の神などはなく、また、唯一の神以外にいかなる神もいないことを、わたしたちは知っています。 8:5 現に多くの神々、多くの主がいると思われているように、たとえ天や地に神々と呼ばれるものがいても、 8:6 わたしたちにとっては、唯一の神、父である神がおられ、万物はこの神から出、わたしたちはこの神へ帰って行くのです。また、唯一の主、イエス・キリストがおられ、万物はこの主によって存在し、わたしたちもこの主によって存在しているのです。 8:7 しかし、この知識がだれにでもあるわけではありません。ある人たちは、今までの偶像になじんできた習慣にとらわれて、肉を食べる際に、それが偶像に供えられた肉だということが念頭から去らず、良心が弱いために汚されるのです。 8:8 わたしたちを神のもとに導くのは、食物ではありません。食べないからといって、何かを失うわけではなく、食べたからといって、何かを得るわけではありません。 8:9 ただ、あなたがたのこの自由な態度が、弱い人々を罪に誘うことにならないように、気をつけなさい。 8:10 知識を持っているあなたが偶像の神殿で食事の席に着いているのを、だれかが見ると、その人は弱いのに、その良心が強められて、偶像に供えられたものを食べるようにならないだろうか。 8:11 そうなると、あなたの知識によって、弱い人が滅びてしまいます。その兄弟のためにもキリストが死んでくださったのです。 8:12 このようにあなたがたが、兄弟たちに対して罪を犯し、彼らの弱い良心を傷つけるのは、キリストに対して罪を犯すことなのです。 8:13 それだから、食物のことがわたしの兄弟をつまずかせるくらいなら、兄弟をつまずかせないために、わたしは今後決して肉を口にしません。
8:1 Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 8:2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 8:3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him. 8:4 Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. 8:5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. 8:7 However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8:8 But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. 8:9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. 8:10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? 8:11 And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 8:12 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 8:13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
