6:1 さて、王国を継いだのは、メディア人ダレイオスであった。彼は既に六十二歳であった。 6:2 ダレイオスは、王国に百二十人の総督を置いて全国を治めさせることにし、 6:3 また、王に損失がないようにするため、これらの総督から報告を受ける大臣を三人、その上に置いた。ダニエルはそのひとりであった。 6:4 ダニエルには優れた霊が宿っていたので、他の大臣や総督のすべてに傑出していた。王は彼に王国全体を治めさせようとした。 6:5 大臣や総督は、政務に関してダニエルを陥れようと口実を探した。しかし、ダニエルは政務に忠実で、何の汚点も怠慢もなく、彼らは訴え出る口実を見つけることができなかった。 6:6 それで彼らは、「ダニエルを陥れるには、その信じている神の法に関してなんらかの言いがかりをつけるほかはあるまい」と話し合い、 6:7 王のもとに集まってこう言った。「ダレイオス王様がとこしえまでも生き永らえられますように。 6:8 王国の大臣、執政官、総督、地方長官、側近ら一同相談いたしまして、王様に次のような、勅令による禁止事項をお定めいただこうということになりました。すなわち、向こう三十日間、王様を差し置いて他の人間や神に願い事をする者は、だれであれ獅子の洞窟に投げ込まれる、と。 6:9 王様、どうぞこの禁令を出し、その書面に御署名ください。そうすれば、これはメディアとペルシアの法律として変更不可能なものとなり、廃止することはできなくなります。」 6:10 ダレイオス王は、その書面に署名して禁令を発布した。 6:11 ダニエルは王が禁令に署名したことを知っていたが、家に帰るといつものとおり二階の部屋に上がり、エルサレムに向かって開かれた窓際にひざまずき、日に三度の祈りと賛美を自分の神にささげた。 6:12 役人たちはやって来て、ダニエルがその神に祈り求めているのを見届け、 6:13 王の前に進み出、禁令を引き合いに出してこう言った。「王様、向こう三十日間、王様を差し置いて他の人間や神に願い事をする者があれば、獅子の洞窟に投げ込まれるという勅令に署名をなさったのではございませんか。」王は答えた。「そのとおりだ。メディアとペルシアの法律は廃棄されることはない。」 6:14 彼らは王に言った。「王様、ユダヤからの捕囚の一人ダニエルは、あなたさまをも、署名なさったその禁令をも無視して、日に三度祈りをささげています。」 6:15 王はこれを聞いてたいそう悩み、なんとかダニエルを助ける方法はないものかと心を砕き、救おうとして日の暮れるまで努力した。 6:16 役人たちは王のもとに来て言った。「王様、ご存じのとおり、メディアとペルシアの法律によれば、王による勅令や禁令は一切変更してはならないことになっております。」 6:17 それで王は命令を下し、ダニエルは獅子の洞窟に投げ込まれることになって引き出された。王は彼に言った。「お前がいつも拝んでいる神がお前を救ってくださるように。」 6:18 一つの石が洞窟の入り口に置かれ、王は自分の印と貴族たちの印で封をし、ダニエルに対する処置に変更がないようにした。 6:19 王は宮殿に帰ったが、その夜は食を断ち、側女も近寄らせず、眠れずに過ごし、 6:20 夜が明けるやいなや、急いで獅子の洞窟へ行った。 6:21 洞窟に近づくと、王は不安に満ちた声をあげて、ダニエルに呼びかけた。「ダニエル、ダニエル、生ける神の僕よ、お前がいつも拝んでいる神は、獅子からお前を救い出す力があったか。」 6:22 ダニエルは王に答えた。「王様がとこしえまでも生き永らえられますように。 6:23 神様が天使を送って獅子の口を閉ざしてくださいましたので、わたしはなんの危害も受けませんでした。神様に対するわたしの無実が認められたのです。そして王様、あなたさまに対しても、背いたことはございません。」 6:24 王はたいそう喜んで、ダニエルを洞窟から引き出すように命じた。ダニエルは引き出されたが、その身に何の害も受けていなかった。神を信頼していたからである。 6:25 王は命令を下して、ダニエルを陥れようとした者たちを引き出させ、妻子もろとも獅子の洞窟に投げ込ませた。穴の底にも達しないうちに、獅子は彼らに飛びかかり、骨までもかみ砕いた。 6:26 ダレイオス王は、全地に住む諸国、諸族、諸言語の人々に、次のように書き送った。「いっそうの繁栄を願って挨拶を送る。 6:27 わたしは以下のとおりに定める。この王国全域において、すべての民はダニエルの神を恐れかしこまなければならない。この神は生ける神、世々にいまし／その主権は滅びることなく、その支配は永遠。 6:28 この神は救い主、助け主。天にも地にも、不思議な御業を行い／ダニエルを獅子の力から救われた。」 6:29 こうしてダニエルは、ダレイオスとぺルシアのキュロスの治世を通して活躍した。
6:1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, to be over the whole kingdom; 6:2 and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. 6:3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. 6:4 So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him. 6:5 Then these men said, "We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God." 6:6 So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: "King Darius, live forever! 6:7 "All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 6:8 "Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter." 6:9 Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. 6:11 Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. 6:12 And they went before the king, and spoke concerning the king's decree: "Have you not signed a decree that every man who petitions any god or man within thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?" The king answered and said, "The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter." 6:13 So they answered and said before the king, "That Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, does not show due regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day." 6:14 And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. 6:15 Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, "Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed." 6:16 So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you." 6:17 Then a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signets of his lords, that the purpose concerning Daniel might not be changed. 6:18 Now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; and no musicians were brought before him. Also his sleep went from him. 6:19 Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions. 6:20 And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?" 6:21 Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever! 6:22 "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you." 6:23 Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God. 6:24 And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions-them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den. 6:25 Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. 6:26 I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel.For He is the living God,And steadfast forever;His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed,And His dominion shall endure to the end. 6:27 He delivers and rescues,And He works signs and wondersIn heaven and on earth,Who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. 6:28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
5:1 さて、わたしは長老の一人として、また、キリストの受難の証人、やがて現れる栄光にあずかる者として、あなたがたのうちの長老たちに勧めます。 5:2 あなたがたにゆだねられている、神の羊の群れを牧しなさい。強制されてではなく、神に従って、自ら進んで世話をしなさい。卑しい利得のためにではなく献身的にしなさい。 5:3 ゆだねられている人々に対して、権威を振り回してもいけません。むしろ、群れの模範になりなさい。 5:4 そうすれば、大牧者がお見えになるとき、あなたがたはしぼむことのない栄冠を受けることになります。 5:5 同じように、若い人たち、長老に従いなさい。皆互いに謙遜を身に着けなさい。なぜなら、／「神は、高慢な者を敵とし、／謙遜な者には恵みをお与えになる」からです。
5:1 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 5:2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 5:3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 5:4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for"God resists the proud,But gives grace to the humble."
