5:1 ベルシャツァル王は千人の貴族を招いて大宴会を開き、みんなで酒を飲んでいた。 5:2 宴も進んだころ、ベルシャツァルは、その父ネブカドネツァルがエルサレムの神殿から奪って来た金銀の祭具を持って来るように命じた。王や貴族、後宮の女たちがそれで酒を飲もうというのである。 5:3 そこで、エルサレムの神殿から奪って来た金銀の祭具が運び込まれ、王や貴族、後宮の女たちがそれで酒を飲み始めた。 5:4 こうして酒を飲みながら、彼らは金や銀、青銅、鉄、木や石などで造った神々をほめたたえた。 5:5 その時、人の手の指が現れて、ともし火に照らされている王宮の白い壁に文字を書き始めた。王は書き進むその手先を見た。 5:6 王は恐怖にかられて顔色が変わり、腰が抜け、膝が震えた。 5:7 王は大声をあげ、祈祷師、賢者、星占い師などを連れて来させ、これらバビロンの知者にこう言った。「この字を読み、解釈をしてくれる者には、紫の衣を着せ、金の鎖を首にかけて、王国を治める者のうちの第三の位を与えよう。」 5:8 宮廷の知者たちは皆、集まって来たが、だれもその字を読むことができず、解釈もできなかった。 5:9 ベルシャツァル王はいよいよ恐怖にかられて顔色が変わり、貴族も皆途方に暮れた。 5:10 王や貴族が話しているのを聞いた王妃は、宴会場に来てこう言った。「王様がとこしえまでも生き永らえられますように。そんなに心配したり顔色を変えたりなさらないでくださいませ。 5:11 お国には、聖なる神の霊を宿している人が一人おります。父王様の代に、その人はすばらしい才能、神々のような知恵を示したものでございます。お父上のネブカドネツァル王様は、この人を占い師、祈祷師、賢者、星占い師などの長にしておられました。 5:12 この人には特別な霊の力があって、知識と才能に富み、夢の解釈、謎解き、難問の説明などがよくできるのでございます。ダニエルという者で、父王様はベルテシャツァルと呼んでいらっしゃいました。このダニエルをお召しになれば、その字の解釈をしてくれることでございましょう。」 5:13 そこで、ダニエルが王の前に召し出された。王は彼に言った。「父王がユダから捕らえ帰ったユダヤ人の捕囚の一人、ダニエルというのはお前か。 5:14 聞くところによると、お前は神々の霊を宿していて、すばらしい才能と特別な知恵を持っているそうだ。 5:15 賢者や祈祷師を連れて来させてこの文字を読ませ、解釈させようとしたのだが、彼らにはそれができなかった。 5:16 お前はいろいろと解釈をしたり難問を解いたりする力を持つと聞いた。もしこの文字を読み、その意味を説明してくれたなら、お前に紫の衣を着せ、金の鎖を首にかけて、王国を治める者のうち第三の位を与えよう。」 5:17 ダニエルは王に答えた。「贈り物など不要でございます。報酬はだれか他の者にお与えください。しかし、王様のためにその文字を読み、解釈をいたしましょう。 5:18 王様、いと高き神は、あなたの父ネブカドネツァル王に王国と権勢と威光をお与えになりました。 5:19 その権勢を見て、諸国、諸族、諸言語の人々はすべて、恐れおののいたのです。父王様は思うままに殺し、思うままに生かし、思うままに栄誉を与え、思うままに没落させました。 5:20 しかし、父王様は傲慢になり、頑に尊大にふるまったので、王位を追われ、栄光は奪われました。 5:21 父王様は人間の社会から追放され、心は野の獣のようになり、野生のろばと共に住み、牛のように草を食らい、天から降る露にその身をぬらし、ついに悟ったのは、いと高き神こそが人間の王国を支配し、その御旨のままに王を立てられるのだということでした。 5:22 さて、ベルシャツァル王よ、あなたはその王子で、これらのことをよくご存じでありながら、なお、へりくだろうとはなさらなかった。 5:23 天の主に逆らって、その神殿の祭具を持ち出させ、あなた御自身も、貴族も、後宮の女たちも皆、それで飲みながら、金や銀、青銅、鉄、木や石で造った神々、見ることも聞くこともできず、何も知らないその神々を、ほめたたえておられます。だが、あなたの命と行動の一切を手中に握っておられる神を畏れ敬おうとはなさらない。 5:24 そのために神は、あの手を遣わして文字を書かせたのです。 5:25 さて、書かれた文字はこうです。メネ、メネ、テケル、そして、パルシン。 5:26 意味はこうです。メネは数えるということで、すなわち、神はあなたの治世を数えて、それを終わらせられたのです。 5:27 テケルは量を計ることで、すなわち、あなたは秤にかけられ、不足と見られました。 5:28 パルシンは分けるということで、すなわち、あなたの王国は二分されて、メディアとペルシアに与えられるのです。」 5:29 これを聞いたベルシャツァルは、ダニエルに紫の衣を着せ、金の鎖をその首にかけるように命じ、王国を治める者のうち第三の位を彼に与えるという布告を出した。 5:30 その同じ夜、カルデア人の王ベルシャツァルは殺された。
5:1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand. 5:2 While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave the command to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple which had been in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. 5:3 Then they brought the gold vessels that had been taken from the temple of the house of God which had been in Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone. 5:5 In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 5:6 Then the king's countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other. 5:7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke, saying to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing, and tells me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around his neck; and he shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." 5:8 Now all the king's wise men came, but they could not read the writing, or make known to the king its interpretation. 5:9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, his countenance was changed, and his lords were astonished. 5:10 The queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, came to the banquet hall. The queen spoke, saying, "O king, live forever! Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance change. 5:11 "There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. And in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father-your father the king-made him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. 5:12 "Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation." 5:13 Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke, and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? 5:14 "I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. 5:15 "Now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not give the interpretation of the thing. 5:16 "And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and explain enigmas. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." 5:17 Then Daniel answered, and said before the king, "Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation. 5:18 "O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor. 5:19 "And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down. 5:20 "But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. 5:21 "Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses. 5:22 "But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this. 5:23 "And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. 5:24 "Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written. 5:25 "And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 5:26 "This is the interpretation of each word. Mene: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 5:27 "Tekel: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 5:28 "Peres: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." 5:29 Then Belshazzar gave the command, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 5:30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain. 5:31 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
4:12 愛する人たち、あなたがたを試みるために身にふりかかる火のような試練を、何か思いがけないことが生じたかのように、驚き怪しんではなりません。 4:13 むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかればあずかるほど喜びなさい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れるときにも、喜びに満ちあふれるためです。 4:14 あなたがたはキリストの名のために非難されるなら、幸いです。栄光の霊、すなわち神の霊が、あなたがたの上にとどまってくださるからです。 4:15 あなたがたのうちだれも、人殺し、泥棒、悪者、あるいは、他人に干渉する者として、苦しみを受けることがないようにしなさい。 4:16 しかし、キリスト者として苦しみを受けるのなら、決して恥じてはなりません。むしろ、キリスト者の名で呼ばれることで、神をあがめなさい。 4:17 今こそ、神の家から裁きが始まる時です。わたしたちがまず裁きを受けるのだとすれば、神の福音に従わない者たちの行く末は、いったい、どんなものになるだろうか。 4:18 「正しい人がやっと救われるのなら、／不信心な人や罪深い人はどうなるのか」と言われているとおりです。 4:19 だから、神の御心によって苦しみを受ける人は、善い行いをし続けて、真実であられる創造主に自分の魂をゆだねなさい。
4:12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 4:13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 4:14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. 4:16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 4:18 Now"If the righteous one is scarcely saved,Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?" 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
