2:1 ネブカドネツァル王が即位して二年目のことであった。王は何度か夢を見て不安になり、眠れなくなった。 2:2 王は命令を出して、占い師、祈祷師、まじない師、賢者を呼び出し、自分の夢を説明させようとした。彼らが王の前に進み出ると、 2:3 王は言った。「夢を見たのだが、その夢の意味を知りたくて心が落ち着かない。」 2:4 賢者たちは王にアラム語で答えた。「王様がとこしえまでも生き永らえられますように。どうぞ僕らにその夢をお話しください。解釈を申し上げます。」 2:5 王は賢者たちに答えた。「いいか、わたしの命令は絶対だ。もしお前たちがわたしの見た夢を言い当て、その解釈をしてくれなければ、お前たちの体を八つ裂きにし、お前たちの家も打ち壊す。 2:6 しかし、もしわたしの見た夢を言い当て、正しく解釈してくれれば、ほうびとして贈り物と大いなる名誉を授けよう。だから、その夢を言い当て、解釈してみよ。」 2:7 彼らは繰り返し答えた。「王様、どうぞその夢をお聞かせください。僕らはその解釈をいたしましょう。」 2:8 王は言った。「思ったとおりだ。わたしの命令が必ず実行されることを知っているので、時間を稼ごうとしているのだ。 2:9 その夢を話して聞かせることができなければ、お前たちに下される判決は今言ったとおりだ。だから、わたしの前でうそをついたり、いいかげんなことを述べ立てたりして、わたしの考えが変わるまで時を稼ごうとしているにちがいない。さあ、夢を話してみよ。そうすれば、解釈できるかどうかも分かるだろう。」 2:10 賢者たちは王に答えた。「王様のお求めに応じることのできる者は、この地上にはおりません。大王や支配者の中のだれも、そのようなことを占い師、祈祷師、賢者に求めたことはございません。 2:11 王様のお求めになることは難しく、これに応じることのできるのは、人間と住まいを共になさらぬ神々だけでございましょう。」 2:12 王は激しく怒り、憤慨し、バビロンの知者を皆殺しにするよう命令した。 2:13 知者を処刑する定めが出されたので、人々はダニエルとその同僚をも殺そうとして探した。 2:14 バビロンの知者を殺そうと出て来た侍従長アルヨクにダニエルは思慮深く賢明に応対し、 2:15 この王の高官アルヨクに尋ねた。「どうして王様はこのような厳しい命令を出されたのですか。」アルヨクはダニエルに事情を説明した。 2:16 ダニエルは王のもとに行って、願った。「しばらくの時をいただけますなら、解釈いたします。」 2:17 ダニエルは家に帰り、仲間のハナンヤ、ミシャエル、アザルヤに事情を説明した。 2:18 そして、他のバビロンの賢者と共に殺されることのないよう、天の神に憐れみを願い、その夢の秘密を求めて祈った。 2:19 すると、夜の幻によってその秘密がダニエルに明かされた。ダニエルは天の神をたたえ、 2:20 こう祈った。「神の御名をたたえよ、世々とこしえに。知恵と力は神のもの。 2:21 神は時を移し、季節を変え／王を退け、王を立て／知者に知恵を、識者に知識を与えられる。 2:22 奥義と秘義を現し／闇にひそむものを知り／光は御もとに宿る。 2:23 わたしの父祖の神よ、感謝と賛美をささげます。知恵と力をわたしに授け／今、願いをかなえ／王の望むことを知らせてくださいました。」 2:24 それから、ダニエルはバビロンの知者皆殺しの命を受けていたアルヨクのもとに行って、こう言った。「バビロンの知者を殺さないでください。わたしを王様のもとに連れて行ってくだされば、王様に解釈を申し上げます。」 2:25 そこで、アルヨクはおそるおそるダニエルを王のもとに連れて出て、こう言った。「ユダの捕囚の中に、一人の男が見つかりました。王様に解釈を申し上げると言っております。」 2:26 王はベルテシャツァルの名を持つダニエルに尋ねた。「わたしの見た夢を言い当て、それを解釈してくれると言うのか。」 2:27 ダニエルは王に答えた。「王様がお求めになっている秘密の説明は、知者、祈祷師、占い師、星占い師にはできません。 2:28 だが、秘密を明かす天の神がおられ、この神が将来何事が起こるのかをネブカドネツァル王に知らせてくださったのです。王様の夢、お眠りになっていて頭に浮かんだ幻を申し上げましょう。 2:29 お休みになって先々のことを思いめぐらしておられた王様に、神は秘密を明かし、将来起こるべきことを知らせようとなさったのです。 2:30 その秘密がわたしに明かされたのは、命あるものすべてにまさる知恵がわたしにあるからではなく、ただ王様にその解釈を申し上げ、王様が心にある思いをよく理解なさるようお助けするためだったのです。 2:31 王様、あなたは一つの像を御覧になりました。それは巨大で、異常に輝き、あなたの前に立ち、見るも恐ろしいものでした。 2:32 それは頭が純金、胸と腕が銀、腹と腿が青銅、 2:33 すねが鉄、足は一部が鉄、一部が陶土でできていました。 2:34 見ておられると、一つの石が人手によらずに切り出され、その像の鉄と陶土の足を打ち砕きました。 2:35 鉄も陶土も、青銅も銀も金も共に砕け、夏の打穀場のもみ殻のようになり、風に吹き払われ、跡形もなくなりました。その像を打った石は大きな山となり、全地に広がったのです。 2:36 これが王様の御覧になった夢です。さて、その解釈をいたしましょう。 2:37 王様、あなたはすべての王の王です。天の神はあなたに、国と権威と威力と威光を授け、 2:38 人間も野の獣も空の鳥も、どこに住んでいようとみなあなたの手にゆだね、このすべてを治めさせられました。すなわち、あなたがその金の頭なのです。 2:39 あなたのあとに他の国が興りますが、これはあなたに劣るもの。その次に興る第三の国は青銅で、全地を支配します。 2:40 第四の国は鉄のように強い。鉄はすべてを打ち砕きますが、あらゆるものを破壊する鉄のように、この国は破壊を重ねます。 2:41 足と足指は一部が陶工の用いる陶土、一部が鉄であるのを御覧になりましたが、そのようにこの国は分裂しています。鉄が柔らかい陶土と混じっているのを御覧になったように、この国には鉄の強さもあります。 2:42 足指は一部が鉄、一部が陶土です。すなわち、この国には強い部分もあれば、もろい部分もあるのです。 2:43 また、鉄が柔らかい陶土と混じり合っているのを御覧になったように、人々は婚姻によって混じり合います。しかし、鉄が陶土と溶け合うことがないように、ひとつになることはありません。 2:44 この王たちの時代に、天の神は一つの国を興されます。この国は永遠に滅びることなく、その主権は他の民の手に渡ることなく、すべての国を打ち滅ぼし、永遠に続きます。 2:45 山から人手によらず切り出された石が、鉄、青銅、陶土、銀、金を打つのを御覧になりましたが、それによって、偉大な神は引き続き起こることを王様にお知らせになったのです。この夢は確かであり、解釈もまちがいございません。」 2:46 これを聞いたネブカドネツァルはひれ伏してダニエルを拝し、献げ物と香を彼に供えさせた。 2:47 王はダニエルに言った。「あなたがこの秘密を明かすことができたからには、あなたたちの神はまことに神々の神、すべての王の主、秘密を明かす方にちがいない。」 2:48 王はダニエルを高い位につけ、多くのすばらしい贈り物を与え、バビロン全州を治めさせ、バビロンの知者すべての上に長官として立てた。 2:49 ダニエルは王に願って、シャドラク、メシャク、アベド・ネゴをバビロン州の行政官に任命してもらった。ダニエル自身は王宮にとどまった。
2:1 Now in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was so troubled that his sleep left him. 2:2 Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. 2:3 And the king said to them, "I have had a dream, and my spirit is anxious to know the dream." 2:4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, "O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation." 2:5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, "My decision is firm: if you do not make known the dream to me, and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made an ash heap. 2:6 "However, if you tell the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore tell me the dream and its interpretation." 2:7 They answered again and said, "Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will give its interpretation." 2:8 The king answered and said, "I know for certain that you would gain time, because you see that my decision is firm: 2:9 "if you do not make known the dream to me, there is only one decree for you! For you have agreed to speak lying and corrupt words before me till the time has changed. Therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can give me its interpretation." 2:10 The Chaldeans answered the king, and said, "There is not a man on earth who can tell the king's matter; therefore no king, lord, or ruler has ever asked such things of any magician, astrologer, or Chaldean. 2:11 "It is a difficult thing that the king requests, and there is no other who can tell it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh." 2:12 For this reason the king was angry and very furious, and gave a command to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. 2:13 So the decree went out, and they began killing the wise men; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to kill them. 2:14 Then with counsel and wisdom Daniel answered Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon; 2:15 he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, "Why is the decree from the king so urgent?" Then Arioch made the decision known to Daniel. 2:16 So Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation. 2:17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, 2:18 that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 2:19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 2:20 Daniel answered and said:"Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,For wisdom and might are His. 2:21 And He changes the times and the seasons;He removes kings and raises up kings;He gives wisdom to the wiseAnd knowledge to those who have understanding. 2:22 He reveals deep and secret things;He knows what is in the darkness,And light dwells with Him. 2:23 "I thank You and praise You,O God of my fathers;You have given me wisdom and might,And have now made known to me what we asked of You,For You have made known to us the king's demand." 2:24 Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him: "Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; take me before the king, and I will tell the king the interpretation." 2:25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king, and said thus to him, "I have found a man of the captives of Judah, who will make known to the king the interpretation." 2:26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?" 2:27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, "The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. 2:28 "But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these: 2:29 "As for you, O king, thoughts came to your mind while on your bed, about what would come to pass after this; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will be. 2:30 "But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but for our sakes who make known the interpretation to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart. 2:31 "You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendor was excellent, stood before you; and its form was awesome. 2:32 "This image's head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 2:33 "its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 2:34 "You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 2:35 "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. 2:36 "This is the dream. Now we will tell the interpretation of it before the king. 2:37 "You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory; 2:38 "and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all-you are this head of gold. 2:39 "But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 2:40 "And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 2:41 "Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 2:42 "And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 2:43 "As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. 2:44 "And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 2:45 "Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold-the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure." 2:46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, prostrate before Daniel, and commanded that they should present an offering and incense to him. 2:47 The king answered Daniel, and said, "Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret." 2:48 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon. 2:49 Also Daniel petitioned the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
3:13 もし、善いことに熱心であるなら、だれがあなたがたに害を加えるでしょう。 3:14 しかし、義のために苦しみを受けるのであれば、幸いです。人々を恐れたり、心を乱したりしてはいけません。 3:15 心の中でキリストを主とあがめなさい。あなたがたの抱いている希望について説明を要求する人には、いつでも弁明できるように備えていなさい。 3:16 それも、穏やかに、敬意をもって、正しい良心で、弁明するようにしなさい。そうすれば、キリストに結ばれたあなたがたの善い生活をののしる者たちは、悪口を言ったことで恥じ入るようになるのです。 3:17 神の御心によるのであれば、善を行って苦しむ方が、悪を行って苦しむよりはよい。 3:18 キリストも、罪のためにただ一度苦しまれました。正しい方が、正しくない者たちのために苦しまれたのです。あなたがたを神のもとへ導くためです。キリストは、肉では死に渡されましたが、霊では生きる者とされたのです。 3:19 そして、霊においてキリストは、捕らわれていた霊たちのところへ行って宣教されました。 3:20 この霊たちは、ノアの時代に箱舟が作られていた間、神が忍耐して待っておられたのに従わなかった者です。この箱舟に乗り込んだ数人、すなわち八人だけが水の中を通って救われました。 3:21 この水で前もって表された洗礼は、今やイエス・キリストの復活によってあなたがたをも救うのです。洗礼は、肉の汚れを取り除くことではなくて、神に正しい良心を願い求めることです。 3:22 キリストは、天に上って神の右におられます。天使、また権威や勢力は、キリストの支配に服しているのです。
3:13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled." 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 3:16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 3:17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 3:19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 3:20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
