8:1 その日クセルクセス王は、ユダヤ人の敵ハマンの家を王妃エステルに与えた。エステルはモルデカイとの間柄を知らせたので、モルデカイは王の前に出た。 8:2 王はハマンから取り返した指輪をモルデカイに与え、エステルは彼をハマンの家の管理人とした。
8:3 エステルは、再び王の前に申し出て、その足もとにひれ伏し、涙を流し、憐れみを乞い、アガグ人ハマンの悪事、すなわち、ユダヤ人に対して彼がたくらんだことを無効にしていただくことを願った。 8:4 王が金の笏を差し伸べたので、エステルは身を起こし、王の前に立って、 8:5 言った。「もしお心に適い、特別の御配慮をいただき、また王にも適切なことと思われ、私にも御目をかけていただけますなら、アガグ人ハメダタの子ハマンの考え出した文書の取り消しを書かせていただきとうございます。ハマンは国中のユダヤ人を皆殺しにしようとしてあの文書を作りました。 8:6 私は自分の民族にふりかかる不幸を見るに忍びず、また同族の滅亡を見るに忍びないのでございます。」 8:7 そこでクセルクセス王は王妃エステルとユダヤ人モルデカイに言った。「わたしはハマンの家をエステルに与え、ハマンを木につるした。ハマンがユダヤ人を滅ぼそうとしたからにほかならない。 8:8 お前たちはよいと思うことをユダヤ人のために王の名によって書き記し、王の指輪で印を押すがよい。王の名によって書き記され、王の指輪で印を押された文書は、取り消すことができない。」 8:9 そのころ、第三の月のこと、すなわちシワンの月の二十三日に、王の書記官が召集され、インドからクシュに至るまで、百二十七州にいるユダヤ人と総督、地方長官、諸州の高官たちに対してモルデカイが命ずるがままに文書が作成された。それは各州ごとにその州の文字で、各民族ごとにその民族の言語で、ユダヤ人にはユダヤ文字とその言語で、 8:10 クセルクセス王の名によって書き記され、王の指輪で印を押してあった。その文書は王家の飼育所で育てられた御用馬の早馬に乗った急使によって各地に届けられた。 8:11 こうして王の命令によって、どの町のユダヤ人にも自分たちの命を守るために集合し、自分たちを迫害する民族や州の軍隊を女や子供に至るまで一人残らず滅ぼし、殺し、絶滅させ、その持ち物を奪い取ることが許された。 8:12 これはクセルクセス王の国中どこにおいても一日だけ、第十二の月、すなわちアダルの月の十三日と定められた。 8:13 この文書の写しはどの州でもすべての民族に国の定めとして公示され、ユダヤ人は敵に復讐するためその日に備えるようになった。 8:14 御用馬の早馬に乗った急使は王の命令によって直ちに急いで出立し、要塞の町スサでもこの定めが言い渡された。 8:15 モルデカイが紫と白の王服に、大きな黄金の冠と白と赤の上着を着け、王の前から退出してくると、スサの都は歓声に包まれた。 8:16 それはユダヤ人にとって輝かしく、祝うべきこと、喜ばしく、誉れあることであった。 8:17 王の命令とその定めが届くと、州という州、町という町で、ユダヤ人は喜び祝い、宴会を開いて楽しくその日を過ごした。その地の民族にもユダヤ人になろうとする者が多く出た。ユダヤ人に対する恐れに襲われたからである。
[ 8 ] 8:1 On that day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. 8:2 So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman. 8:3 Now Esther spoke again to the king, fell down at his feet, and implored him with tears to counteract the evil of Haman the Agagite, and the scheme which he had devised against the Jews. 8:4 And the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king, 8:5 and said, "If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight and the thing seems right to the king and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to annihilate the Jews who are in all the king's provinces. 8:6 "For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen?" 8:7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, "Indeed, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he tried to lay his hand on the Jews. 8:8 "You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, as you please, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's signet ring; for whatever is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's signet ring no one can revoke." 8:9 So the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and it was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded, to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces in all, to every province in its own script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own script and language. 8:10 And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, sealed it with the king's signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horseback, riding on royal horses bred from swift steeds. 8:11 By these letters the king permitted the Jews who were in every city to gather together and protect their lives-to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them, both little children and women, and to plunder their possessions, 8:12 on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. 8:13 A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province and published for all people, so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. 8:14 The couriers who rode on royal horses went out, hastened and pressed on by the king's command. And the decree was issued in Shushan the citadel. 8:15 So Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, with a great crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. 8:16 The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor. 8:17 And in every province and city, wherever the king's command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday. Then many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them.

[ 13 ] 13:1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 13:3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. 13:4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 13:5 And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. 13:6 Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, 13:7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 13:8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 13:9 Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him 13:10 and said, "O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? 13:11 "And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time." And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 13:12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord. 13:13 Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem. 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. 13:15 And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on." 13:16 Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen: 13:17 "The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He brought them out of it. 13:18 "Now for a time of about forty years He put up with their ways in the wilderness. 13:19 "And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land to them by allotment. 13:20 "After that He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. 13:21 "And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 13:22 "And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.' 13:23 "From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior-Jesus- 13:24 "after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 13:25 "And as John was finishing his course, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.' 13:26 "Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent. 13:27 "For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him. 13:28 "And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death. 13:29 "Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb. 13:30 "But God raised Him from the dead. 13:31 "He was seen for many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people. 13:32 "And we declare to you glad tidings-that promise which was made to the fathers. 13:33 "God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm:'You are My Son,Today I have begotten You.' 13:34 "And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus:'I will give you the sure mercies of David.' 13:35 "Therefore He also says in another Psalm:'You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.' 13:36 "For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption; 13:37 "but He whom God raised up saw no corruption. 13:38 "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 13:39 "and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. 13:40 "Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you: 13:41 "Behold, you despisers,Marvel and perish!For I work a work in your days,A work which you will by no means believe,Though one were to declare it to you.' " 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. 13:43 Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
